EMI Group Sold Off and Split into Two Parts to Universal Music Group

There are no longer four major companies in the music world. The infamous EMI Group has been sold off to both Universal Music Group and Sony Corp for a combined to $4.1 billion earlier today. This is about 8% more than what Citigroup had initially asked for. Citigroup took over EMI earlier this year because of Terra Firma, a British private equity firm, didn't lead the company out of debt. That also cost them a major loss, such as The Rolling Stones parting ways with the company.

So how did this deal go down exactly? Universal bought EMI's recorded music for $1.9 billion. Sony bought the publishing division for $2.2 billion. The publishing division sold for a bit more because it's considered more profitable than the recorded music. Since EMI is London based, antitrust regulators in both the U.S. and Europe have to go over this deal before approving it. A few famous artists part of EMI include Coldplay, Pink Floyd, Katy Perry as well as it being the home to The Beatles.

What does this mean for fans? Music is going to be tougher to find because now there are going to be three major companies, Universal Music Group, Sony Corp, and Warner Music Group, controlling the popular tunes.

Top Universal Music Executive seen partying all over Hollywood

After a glamorous red carpet appearance at Music TeleVision’s (MTV) 21st Annual Movie Awards, the model esc behavior of this distant, untainted star only left paparazzi and Los Angeles media thirsting for more; leaving in a dark-colored custom Rolls Royce sedan with Hollywood Reporter staff hot on his tail. As celebrities flocked to Hollywood Blvd. and the Hollywood Hills basin area this particular figure just seemed to disappear in the crowd. It was later  confirmed through affiliates  and other media sources that “[he] did attend” the Movie Awards after-party held, MyStudio Lounge Hollywood (6623 Hollywood Blvd), and was also seen leaving Beverly Hills night club Greystone Manor with hip-hop/r&b singer Rihanna.

“Most celebrities usually like to stay in front of the camera … Especially at large parties and events. He tends to stream away.” June 6th reports him in a hat and facial scarf with an unusual entourage, listed: RiRi and her friends (rihannadaily.com),  for a fun day at Santa Monica Pier and later that evening at trendy upscale restaurant La Boheme. Friday, June 8th Leland DeWayne was seen dropping r&b singer off at LAX International: confirmed through Affiliated Press, Rihanna flew to New York after initially cancelling her performance obligations in Europe for that evening.

Shorty after, L DeWayne, reportedly followed by paparazzi to Van Nuys airport; then boarded a private charter to New York.  Affiliates in New York were unable to locate his whereabouts during his weekend stay; however, flight transcripts do confirm he did leave LaGuardia, NY to LAX late Sunday evening. Hollywood Reporter journalists confronted L. DeWayne on Wednesday June 14th.  He did directly decline to answer any/all questions and refused to release us for a formal interview.
