Zumba Instructor La’Reese Felix Supports 1Goal with Shakira and the South African World Cup 2010

Recently, local Zumba instructor, La’Reese Felix had the opportunity to use Zumba, to help children around the world.  Zumba is an aerobic fitness program created by Miami-based dancer and choreographer Beto Perez and two entrepreneurs, Alberto Perlman and Alberto Aghion. It originated in Colombia in the 1990s and is taught by some 20,000 instructors in 35 countries.

Shakira, long-time friend of Beto Perez, creator of Zumba, had asked Zumba Fitness Instructors to demonstrate their support and individual flare by choreographing a Zumba dance to her newest song, WAKA WAKA (This time for Africa), which premiered at the South African World Cup 2010 as the official song of the event, and then to post it on YouTube. Shakira, a 1GOAL ambassador, spent some time with the children of South Africa and visited the school systems.

1GOAL and Shakira hope to help the 72 million deprived children around the world, who are not in school, get an education.  They, along with Zumba, created 1 Song, 1 Dance, 1GOAL - education for all.  1GOAL is urging heads of state and world leaders to ensure that every child is in an education program by the next FIFA World Cup in Brazil, four years from now.

Felix answered the call and created a fun dance to the song and later posted it on YouTube to show her support. Felix teaches her hour long Zumba classes locally on Monday nights at 8PM at LA Fitness in Tradition and Wednesday nights at 8:15 PM at St. Lucie Ballet in Port St. Lucie.
